Internship: Perth USAsia Centre

Internship period: November – December 2017

The Perth USAsia Centre located at The University of Western Australia is a non-partisan, not-for-profit institution strengthening relationships and strategic thinking between Australia, the Indo-Pacific and the USA. The Centre is a leading think tank focusing on geo-political issues, policy development and building a strategic affairs community across government, business and academia. Since the Centre’s inception, we have collaborated with over 30 partners to convene more than 400 events across 11 cities in 7 countries, engaging a world class community network of more than 4,500 strategic thinkers and leaders.

My internship role was comprised of three main tasks: speaker/delegate research and database management in preparation for the Perth USAsia Centre’s 2018 In The Zone conference, original research on Australia-Asia relations for publication on the Centre’s blog, and event preparation and management for the Centre’s academic roundtable discussions and lectures.

“While China is Australia’s largest trading partner, China also holds that status for nearly 100 other countries. There is an asymmetry of interests, in which Australia holds a far less prominent place in Chinese policy discussions than China does in Australia.”Have Regional Security Concerns Brought Australia Back to the Quad?

During the internship, I contributed an article to the Perth USAsia Centre’s Blog, titled Have Regional Security Concerns Brought Australia Back to the Quad?
